Juist, a small island in the middle of the North Sea, enchants its visitors with a multitude of sights and unforgettable experiences. From the impressive landmark at the harbour entrance to the historic lighthouse and the lively Kurplatz - there is so much to discover here. Each of these places contributes to the unique atmosphere of the island and makes Juist a special holiday destination. In this blog post, we take you on a journey to the five most important highlights of Juist that you shouldn't miss during your visit.

Landmark of the island

Juist's striking landmark is located at the entrance to the harbour, right next to the marina. This 17 metre high steel structure, which represents a buoy floating in the water, is clearly visible from afar. You can reach this impressive point via a pier, from where you can watch ships and see the distant mainland.

Memmertfeuer

The lighthouse on Juist, known as Memmertfeuer, is unique in that its light shines exclusively inland. Originally built in 1939 on the bird sanctuary island of Memmert, it served as an official sea mark until it was dismantled. Thanks to the commitment of residents and guests, the lighthouse was moved to Juist in 1992 and now stands in the immediate vicinity of the harbour. Today, the lighthouse is a popular meeting point for setting off on a mudflat hike or exploration tour.

Public park

In the heart of Juist lies the popular public park, surrounded by cafés and a small boat pond where young and old can sail their self-built model boats. Locals and holidaymakers meet on this square and can listen to the beautiful live music that is regularly played here.

Water tower

Juist's water tower, also known as the ‘Doornkaatbuddel’, is enthroned on a 17 metre high dune. Built in 1927, it is still fully functional today. However, due to its importance as a fresh water reservoir, guided tours inside are not possible. But it's not just the sight of the tower that is worthwhile, because from up here you can also enjoy a wonderful view over the beaches of Juist and the town centre and is therefore definitely worth a visit.
